Made from part of the wooden pilings of the Surrrey Docks the chief importers of exotic woods. It was cut-down in Canada, shipped to London and then treated with pitch before emersion in the dock water. When dug-up 100 years later the still retained its hard dry centre. Re-cycling old industrial wood is one way to maintain the rain forest.
